mattculloton.jpgMatthew Culloton is the Founding Artistic Director and Conductor of The Singers—Minnesota Choral Artists. He holds degrees from Concordia College, Moorhead (B.M. in Music Education) and the University of Minnesota (M.M. in Choral Conducting). He is currently completing coursework towards a D.M.A. in Conducting at the University of Minnesota.

From 1999-2004, Matthew was a member of The Dale Warland Singers, having served as Music Adviser to Dale Warland, Assistant Conductor, and Bass Section Leader. An experienced and celebrated music educator, Matthew began his teaching career in the Long Prairie - Grey Eagle School District. From 2000-2006, he was Director of Choral Activities at Hopkins High School.

As a composer, Matthew has been commissioned by The Singers, the Dale Warland Singers, Choral Arts Ensemble of Rochester (MN), Staples Area Men’s Chorus, Chanson, the Minnesota MMEA All-State Choir, and numerous high school, collegiate, and church choirs. He is co-editor of the Matthew and Michael Culloton Choral Series with Santa Barbara Publishing Company. His music is published by Santa Barbara Music Publishing, Hinshaw Music, Mark Foster Music (Shawnee), Kjos Music, and Graphite Publishing.

 

michaelsmith.jpgMichael Smith, Senior Lecturer and Conductor of Chapel Choir, Männerchor, and Cantabile at Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Olaf College, Master of Art in music degree from the university of Northern Colorado, and completed all but the dissertation for his PhD in Music Education from the University of Minnesota.  For twenty-five years Smith was choral director at Brainerd High School.

In 1990 he was honored to receive the Minnesota Music Educators Association Choral Director of the Year Award, and in 1999 he was named the Minnesota American Choral Directors Association Choral Director of the Year.  In 1997, Smith was given the distinction of being the first Minnesota high school choral director to conduct the Minnesota All-State Men's Chorus. 
Smith has served on the Board of Minnesota Music Educators Association and was president of Minnesota American Choral Directors Association.  He is very active as a choral clinician and voice teacher.  He likes to think of his choirs as large voice classes where individuals can learn how to properly use their voices as they sing great literature.

 

bryanjohnson.jpgBryan Johnson received a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Olaf College in 1967 and a Master of Arts degree in music education from the University of Northern Colorado in 1972.  He taught choral music at Aitkin Jr/Sr High School from 1967-2007.  He has also directed annual performances of the Aitkin Community Chorus and has been the director of Community Theater since 1995.

Bryan originally started out as a piano major at St. Olaf and remained active as an accompanist throughout his career in choral music and music theatre.  He has produced and directed over 30 musicals.

Mr. Johnson was the staff accompanist for the Minnesota All-State Men’s Choir for 16 years.  Since his retirement from teaching choral music, he has been the regular concert accompanist for the choirs from both Brainerd High School and Crosby–Ironton High School.

 

brianstubbs.jpgBrian Stubbs is the Vocal Music Director at Brainerd Senior High School.  He is a veteran teacher of 20 years, serving as choir director at Brainerd Senior High for 3 years, Grand Rapids Senior High for 16, and as  1-12 music teacher in Kenyon, MN for 1.  Brian has also been very active as a church musician for 13 years.  A graduate of Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, Brian had the privilege of singing in Paul Christiansen’s last choir and Rene Clausen’s first two.  He earned his Master of Music Education degree at the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley.

Brian is an alumni of the Blandin Foundation Community Leadership program, chosen in his community as a leader for the arts and education.  He has served on the board as a District Chair for the American Choral Director’s Association of MN, and as Choral VP for the MN Music Educator’s Association.  Currently, Brian is the President of the American Choral Director’s Association of MN.  He has served as a judge and clinician throughout the state.
